Listeners will be transported to the South of France when The Alliance Française of Doylestown welcomes Marjorie R. Williams for an illustrated presentation of her newest book Markets of Provence. The lecture will be followed by a book signing. The event, which is open to the public, takes place on Thursday, October 6 from 7pm - 9pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The event is underwritten by Goût et Voyage, LLC and Simply Fresh by McCaffreys.
Provence is known for its stunning scenery, its deep history, and delicious foods and wines. One of the best ways to explore the region is to visit the food, antique and craft markets, which have been at the heart of Provençal life since the Middle Ages.
Co-author of the widely acclaimed Markets of Paris, Williams spent months exploring the small villages and large towns of Provence—sizing up the markets, browsing the cobbled streets, and seeking out local specialties—in a quest to share her favorite discoveries with others. Williams will identify the different type of markets, discuss which Provençal markets are the best options by day and town and what to look for once there.
Whether dreaming of freshly baked bread, a round of the local specialty Banon cheese, or rustic garden furniture, Williams will point the audience in the right direction.
Seating is limited and early ticket purchase is encouraged. Tickets for the event are available on the Alliance Française website www.afdoylestown.org, at The Doylestown Bookshop and by contacting the Alliance at afdoylestown@gmail.com. The ticket price includes the presentation, a copy of “Markets of Provence” themed refreshments by Fromage Deux in Lahaska and entry to a Provence-themed raffle.
