During the busy holiday season, when most children are making a list of what they want for Christmas or Hannukah, Emilie Croggon was thinking about dogs and cats in need. Her 12th birthday was approaching and she wanted to do something special to pay it forward to The Crossings Animal Society (CAS), the organization from which her family adopted their dog.
Her mom, Susan, called CAS to ask what was needed. As part of their "United Paw" initiative, CAS assists rescue organizations in the community with veterinary care, needed items, and adoptions. Donated items have been shared with organizations such as Tiny Paws Rescue, who pull small dogs from kill shelters, and The Stray Cat Project, who provide trap, neuter and release for community cats in Bucks County.
Emilie’s party was a huge hit! The girls made dog toys from Pinterest designs, including crinkle toys made of reused socks and water bottles and braided cut up t-shirts pull toys. The scavenger hunt through the neighborhood was equally as succesful, as the girls collected leashes, cat food, dog food and treats as well as dozens of new toys and warm blankets.
Emilie is truly an inspiration to everyone in the animal welfare community. The hundreds of dogs and cats that she has helped during this holiday season are wagging their tails and purring loudly, enjoying their gifts with full tummies under warm blankets. Cheers to Paying It Forward!
