Built in 1756, the King George Inn offered a place for people to eat and sleep as they traveled to Easton, Reading, Philadelphia, and the Allegheny Mountains. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places. Most recently, the inn operated Show more... as a restaurant, but in 2012 it was forced to close its doors. Staff reported hearing footsteps going up the staircase, doors opening without assistance, a baby crying near an old cistern, seeing an apparition of a little girl dressed in colonial garb and a bearded man in a colonial tunic and lacy shirt, a revolutionary era soldier, and the spirit of a man who hung himself. ...Show less

The most infamous haunting on the Muhlenberg campus is that of Oscar Bernheim who was either a former registrar or treasurer at Muhlenberg. He left his estate to the college with specific instructions for the college to take care of his garden. Before Show more... the college demolished his residence to make way for South Hall (a dormitory), it was reported that Bernheim's ghost haunted the residence's attic, basement, rear garden, and the third floor bedroom where he died. Since the demolition, students in South Hall have reported strange noises and belongings being moved. Many students believe that the source of the Bernheims's frustration is that the college did not follow through with his wishes to take care of his garden. According to campus lore, the only way to ward the ghost is to keep a healthy plant in your room to pacify him. ...Show less
