The LGBT Library at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center invites participation in our February Community Book Discussion featuring No Ashes in the Show More...Fire: Coming of Age Black & Free in America by Darnell L. Moore. bell hooks says "No Ashes in the Fire is part memoir, part social commentary. Darnell honestly tells his story with an intensity and passion that offers readers a deep understanding of a gay black male coming of age who open-heartedly claims his identity, and who embraces redemptive suffering. Ultimately, he reaches out to everyone with an inclusive love." The text is a story of beauty and hope-and an honest reckoning with family, with place, and with what it means to be free. Esquire calls it "a staggering work that calls into question the truths we assume about ourselves and those among us."

A masterpiece often begins with a humble sketch. Sketching is a crucial process for creative people, and though the term "sketch" instantly brings to Show More...mind fine art, the processes of drafting and planning expands beyond the field of art. You're invited to take a look inside the planning process through the quick sketches people make. Rarely exhibited sketches from local artists including Joseph Cantieni, Emil Gelhaar and, J. Carroll Tobias will accompany completed works on display. See embroidery plans from students at the Ladies' Seminary, City planning documents, building blueprints, and more! Don't miss out on this exhibition of sketchbooks on loan from members of the Lehigh Art Alliance and Bethlehem Palette Club! Come explore how great creations began with a single stroke of the pencil! Please visit our website for specific dates and times.
